Tip 1: The first thing that you want to do when you start an Etsy shop is to figure out what you’re going to be selling. This can be DIY’s, shirts, jewelry, you’re only limited by your imagination.

Whatever it is, you need to figure out what exactly you’re good at and what you love doing if you’re serious about Etsy as a long term business.
Whatever you’re going to be selling you need to make sure that you have enough time to devote to make the products and keep up with orders. For an example, if it’s custom jewelry you may want to give yourself one to two weeks for all orders.
If that’s the case make sure to set all of your preferences so any of your customers can see that it takes one to two weeks for you to produce the item and then ship it out.
You need to consider if you’re working a full time job will you have enough time to do custom jewelry or should you sell something that is going to take you a lot less time and you’re gonna be able to get a lot more out if it.
Tip 2: You need to know what materials you’re gonna need and where you’re gonna store them. If you are making PDFs and it’s a downloadable product then obviously you don’t have to store anything and that’s awesome because you just need your computer.
But if you’re doing wood signs or shirts or anything else that requires you to hold products then you need to make sure that you have somewhere to store them and you have the money to actually purchase the materials needed.
Tip 3: So you’ve figured out what you’re going to be selling now you need to come up with a shop name. You may start out thinking you’re strictly going to be dealing with t-shirts but down the road you may want to add a little bit more into your shop other than just t-shirts.

If you can have more than 10 listings then that’s even better. One of my clients did about 10 listings starting out and it was okay. It kind of slowly started but once she started adding more and more listings she started getting sales a lot quicker.
In her case and her niche, once she reached 100 listings she was able to do Etsy on a full time basis which in turn gave her even more time to grow her business even more.

Also when you’re creating those listings you want to make sure that you are using keywords in your titles, tags and description for those items. You need to be thinking of what you would search for if you were looking for that item.
For example, if I was looking for a fall t-shirt then I might title my listing as fall graphic shirt for women. Then in the description box I would add a description using those keywords as well as the tags.
I could say if you want to find the perfect fall shirt for women look no further, this tee is so soft and perfect for every woman. Or something to that effect. Just make sure to add those keywords to help people find your items when they’re typing in Etsy.
Tip 5: The next thing that you want to do to make your shop successful is get those first few sales as fast as possible because Etsy loves to see things moving out of your shop. It also helps as Etsy will give your items a higher ranking quicker as they see sales results.
What you can do to jumpstart your Etsy business is to ask some of your friends if they would be willing to purchase your item at wholesale. Just charge them exactly what it cost you to make the items just so you can have some sales through your Etsy shop.
The wholesale price is all they ended up paying but it looked like you were getting sales really quick right after opening your shop. Etsy loves that so they’re gonna push out your orders.
The more orders you have the more your items are going to come up in a search! Etsy loves anything that has to do with your shop showing growth or showing that you are adding and constantly developing in your shop.
Bonus Tip: A great way to grow your Etsy business even faster business is to advertise. You don’t always have to pay for sponsored ads on Facebook or Instagram.
In fact my client never did it with her Etsy shop but I did tell her she should reach out to influencers and offer them a free item if they share it on their social media platforms.
