Internet Marketing Tips For Local Businesses
In today’s post I’m going to share some internet marketing tips for local businesses. Many local business owners just don’t realize how many potential customers their missing out on just because they don’t apply some simple internet marketing strategies.
Once they can see exactly what is going on in real time it’s like you’ve showed them the briefcase from Pulp Fiction. lol
I would say 80% of local business owners have no idea about the power of internet marketing and how it pertains to their business.
Sure, about half of them have a website finally but there is so much more to apply and the great thing is these are simple techniques.
I’m going to share with you some local business internet marketing tips that will get you results. So, let’s get started.
Getting Found In Local Searches
Owners don’t realize the importance of adding their name, business address, business email address, website and phone number to search deliverers.
These include Superpages, Google My Business, Yelp, Trip Advisor and even your Facebook fanpage if you have one.
Take the time and look around places like Foursquare, Yahoo, Bing and Yellowpages. You will find in most cases they have autogenerated listings for your business and you will want to claim them as your own.
The google bots are constantly crawling the internet for information and the more places you have your business info the better it helps google to share their results with your potential customers.
To explain it better let’s say you own a pizza shop. Customers who are hungry for pizza like me lol are going to google pizza in your area.
Once your business info is filled in on the sites above it will return results to that customer that can show your business.
Google My Business
It’s free to create your business listing on Google My Business and make sure to request a postcard from Google as this is a way for them to verify your business location and get rid of the fake listings that some businesses try to put up.
Keep this in mind! If your business does business outside your physical address such as pizza delivery make sure to check the “I deliver my goods and services to customers at their location” when setting up your address.
Doing this step will widen your google map listing and include the complete area that you serve. Enter the locations you serve or select a radius around your business.
If you also serve customers at your business, make sure you check the box that says “I also serve customers at my business address.”
Make sure to add a Primary category and take advantage of the Additional Relevant Categories as this can really help you outrank your competitors and we’re going to talk about that next.

OutRank Your Competition
If your business has a website make sure you add a blog to it. This is where you can really take charge of where you will rank on Google.
You see most business owners don’t put the effort into adding content to their website and if you’re not doing this you are going to get a lower listing compared to other biz owners in your niche.
Don’t worry, this isn’t hard or that time consuming. Heck, you could even have someone write and add the new content for you and it won’t cost an arm and a leg.
What you want to focus on is the Additional Relevant Categories that you have chosen in Google My Business. These are going to be keywords that we will write about in our blog.
As an example with the pizza shop. With google my business you would be listed as a restaurant but in additional categories would be pizza, italian, greek, salads or something like that and the more categories you cover the better results we can build upon.
Next you would write a post in your blog, don’t worry it doesn’t have to be a novel, 500-700 words will be just fine. We would title the post “Your local area” pizza shop and write an informative articles about makes your pizza the greatest.
Rinse and repeat for the other additional categories. I know it doesn’t sound like much but believe me 90% of local businesses don’t add any content, they put their website up and never touch it again. This is what will separate you from the competition.
Once you complete the above steps if you really want to ramp things up, share more content. It can be helpful cooking tips for pizza, lasagna, etc.
Do this once a week, share your new posts on your facebook fanpage, twitter, pinterest or youtube channel where you actually show meals being prepped.
