Creating Great Autoresponder Emails
I’m sure many of you have struggled with creating great autoresponder emails. I know I did when I first started trying to build my list. You’ve got your optin form and capture page just the way you want it, now what the heck am I supposed to write in these followup letters.lol
Of course, if you’re doing affiliate marketing many of the vendors of these type products already have email letters for you to use and I use to think copying and pasting those would be fine. Don’t get me wrong, you will see results but not as good as you could get.
The key is to build your relationship with your new found list members. They’re not just a number! You must provide value, honesty and share your experiences with your audience.
People Want To Connect
You can see for yourself. What emails do you get everyday that immediately go to the trash folder? What ones do you open as soon as possible? If you’re in the marketing field I’m sure you get tons of offers and most go straight to trash but what is it that makes you always open certain ones?
It could be that they provide coupons/discounts like Overstock does in every email. It could be that they provide a solution to a problem you have such as dieting, acne, hair loss, how to make money online, etc
Pretty much everyone will continue to open emails when they know they’re getting discounts but it’s not the same with the other method and the problem is “People don’t want to be sold”.
I’m sure you’ve signed up for a product and started receiving emails where they try to pitch you something new in each email. After a while you just stop opening them. Why, because the people sending them have not built a relationship with you and deep down you start to feel that all they want to do is constantly sell you.
Believe me, that method has worked for years but I believe those days are dying off.
I get tons of emails everyday from marketers and 98% go straight to trash without ever being opened. If you’ve been involved with warrior forum or jvzoo you know what I’m talking about.lol These vendors are constantly promoting the next big thing that will help you finally succeed online.
You’ll start to realize that it’s the same people over and over again selling the next big thing and that’s how they are making their money, not by actually using the product itself.
The ones I do open constantly are the ones that are always providing value. The ones that are sharing their story, experiences, failures and achievements and not pitching me in every email. These are people that are proving their credibility and I have an interest with.
Creating a great autoresponder letter is a lot like writing to your best friend and that can be pretty powerful. Write the way you talk, use your personality. Don’t be scared, open yourself up. People want real interaction and authenticity not some copy and paste letter that they get in every other email.
Setting Up Your Email Letters
Hopefully you’ve set up your capture page and optin form with a free giveaway. It could be a free report about the 10 quickest ways to loosen your hip flexors for an example. It has to be something related to your page, it has to solve a problem or help them achieve their goal.
In your first email you send them the report or product and set a basic framework of what they can expect in the future from your emails. You can share with them how the product or report you are sending to them has helped you.
In your second email you share more about yourself and how it relates to the challenges that your audience is facing and how to help them overcome them.
Let’s take the hip flexor report as an example. I would start out with: Being an athlete I was always used to being in great shape but as I got older I started having some issues with my back.
Here you have explained the challenge you faced and now you tell them to keep an eye out for your next email that will show how you started overcoming that challenge.
Your third email shares how you overcame the challenge: “I started to realize that what I thought was a back problem was really an issue with my hip flexors. Once I started focusing on the correct exercise methods I began to see results and I never realized there were so many things that I just grew accustomed to not being able to do.”
When I mentioned things that I was not able to do it opens up a hidden benefits option which I can share with them in the next letter.
Your fourth email will share the hidden benefits such as: After doing these exercises I’m able to finally sleep better. I’m able to bend over more easily. I can sit more comfortably. etc
Your fifth email is a call to action. This doesn’t mean send them straight to paypal for them to buy directly, you are simple presenting them a sales message. Have them visit your sales page or even better have a link to an article or page on your site that gives them even more information.
The key is to offer value, give information that solves a problem or helps them reach a goal. When your audience starts to see that you’re honestly trying to help they are more willing to buy from you or a product you recommend.
Remember, it takes time and it is a learning curve to create great autoresponder emails but realize that you don’t have to establish yourself as the expert. You’re just sharing your ups and downs, results and experiences with them. Believe me, they will appreciate it and you will start earning their trust and building relationships.
