Getting Traffic To My Website
The number 1 question I get asked and what most people struggle with when trying to grow their online business is: “How to get more traffic.” You can have a beautiful site or capture page set up but if you have no visitors you’re doomed to fail.
That’s what most gurus don’t tell you or worse yet, they try to sell you on tools that will send you tons of traffic on autopilot.lol Please don’t fall for that.
They will pitch you the newest Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Youtube or Twitter tool that either will get your account banned or their tool will stop working when those algorithms change in a few weeks.
Don’t get me wrong, social media is a great way to get traffic and not to be overlooked but there are many other methods that work if used correctly and you’re willing to put in the work. That’s right, I said work.
Where Do I Start?
It all starts with your niche and research. For this article I am going to focus on organic traffic for the most part. I am all for following your passion when you’re deciding your niche but if your passion is only YOUR passion you won’t get much traffic.
This is where the research comes in and the good news is it’s fairly easy to find out if others have the same interest.
Let’s say you’re a female that is 50 years old and have always had a passion for fitness. You won’t have to do much research to know that fitness is a very popular niche and that’s great.
Fitness, weight-loss, dieting, working out, these niches are known as evergreen because they have and always will be around. There are quite a few evergreen niches and the great thing:
They make money year-after-year.
They do not need aggressive marketing.
They represent lower investment risk.
They offer a potential for long-term profit.
Here’s some top evergreen niches: Health, Dating and Relationships, Pets, Self-Improvement, Wealth Building Through Investing, Make Money on the Internet and Beauty Treatments.
Okay, let’s get back to being a 50 year old female who is passionate about fitness.lol First off, you know people are interested in it. Now you need to figure out how to put yourself in front of those people so you can get traffic to your website or capture page.
As big as the fitness niche is I would focus my site on fitness for women over 50. Then I would think about various struggles I had to overcome and how I succeeded with getting fit. What type of workouts I did, what food did I eat to help with results, what was my workout schedule, etc.
Go to google search and type in “questions about fitness for women over 50”. You’ll find thousands of questions being asked and when you scroll down the google page you will see: Searches related to questions about fitness for women over 50. This gives you even more ideas that you can draw traffic from.
You can be even more specific and narrow down your competition. Let’s say, fitness for women over 50 with bad backs or post menopause exercises for women over 50.
Don’t Lose Your Focus
I know when I first started trying to build an online business I was amazed at how easy all the emails made it sound about making money. Heck, all I had to do was get a site set up and I would be ready to see my paypal account fill up.lol
I would get emails about how I didn’t even have to write any content, I could buy PLR content or buy an article spinner and post those on my site and visitors would suddenly appear. Keyword being BUY, I really was that naive.
All that changed when I saw a phrase that has stuck with me and hopefully it will for you and it’s: During the Old West gold rush it wasn’t the miners who made the big money, it was the people selling the picks and shovels.
You see, that simple phrase applies both ways. People were going out west to get rich digging for gold and the smartest people were providing the tools that would help them do just that. They solved a problem. People don’t buy hammers because they love hammers, they buy them to pound nails.
On the other hand, people nowadays are wanting to make money online and all those emails we get everyday are from the people wanting to sell us picks and shovels. Don’t get me wrong, some tools are helpful but it also makes it easier to lose your focus. You start worrying more about your tools than digging for gold.
The point is if you put yourself in front of people that need a problem solved and you have the solution you will get traffic and it will grow.
